If you’ve never been deep sea fishing before, it’s normal to have questions about what the day actually looks like. Here’s a simple walkthrough of what to expect.
Before You Go
Arrive at the marina about 20–30 minutes before departure. Your captain will run through a short safety briefing, introduce the crew, and outline the plan for the day based on current conditions.
On the Water
Most charters troll a spread of lures or bait behind the boat while cruising toward known productive spots. When a fish strikes, the crew will help you into the rod holder, coach you through the fight, and handle the gaff and boating once it’s alongside.
Landing Your First Fish
Don’t worry about doing everything perfectly — the crew is there to guide you through every step, from setting the hook to reeling technique. Most first-timers land a fish within their first couple of hours offshore.
At the End of the Day
Your crew will clean and bag your catch, and can point you to a nearby spot to have it cooked if you’d like to eat it that night. Photos with your catch on the dock are part of the tradition — bring your camera.
